New Delhi (Mizzima) - The Government of India has approved a 100 kilometre new highway, which will connect Lawngtlai district in India’s North Eastern state of Mizoram to the India-Burma border.
According to a release by the Indian Government’s Press Information Bureau (PIB), a High Powered Committee (HPC) headed by Mr. Brahm Dutt, Secretary of Road Transport and Highways, on Friday approved an estimated Rs. 650 crore (USD 138 million approximately) proposal to construct a highway.
The highway will link the proposed port facilities in Sittwe in Burma’s western coast. The port facilities in the Bay of Bengal in Sittwe will provide a water route to the whole of North East through Mizoram.
