Chiang Mai (Mizzima) - The United Nations special envoy on human rights Tomas Ojea Quintana will meet a delegation of the National League for Democracy this evening.

The military junta has allowed the meeting and informed the NLD chairman Aung Shwe. The delegation will be led by vice-chairman Tin Oo.

Win Tin, Khin Maung Swe, Nyunt Wai and Than Tun will comprise the delegates, who are to meet the envoy. Though Quintana requested a meeting with opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi, there has been no response yet from the junta, according to NLD sources.

Quintana is back in Rangoon from his trip to Arakan state and visited the notorious Insein prison this morning. Security has been beefed up around Insein prison, which hosts more than 300 of over 2100 political prisoners.

Eyewitnesses told Mizzima that two riot police trucks entered the prison this morning, where political prisoners are reportedly demanding permission to read and write, better health care, proper food and freedom inside prison.
