Delhi court fines Burmese activists

New Delhi (Mizzima) - The Burmese activists, who were arrested by Delhi police on March 20, were today fined Rs. 2,000 each by the court.

The metropolitan magistrate Judge Pritam Singh ordered the Burmese to pay fines for the charges that they pleaded guilty to.

The 26 activists, including five women were charged under sections 147, 149, 188 and 427 of the CrPC for unlawful assembly, disobeying public officers and for damaging and defacement of property in the Burmese embassy compound in New Delhi.

The activists smeared red paint on the wall of the embassy compound protesting against the Burmese military junta for its recently announced electoral laws that they said are "undemocratic" and "fraud".
