Actress Htet Htet Moe Oo ends testimony on assaulting reporter charge

Rangoon (Mizzima) – A hearing in a criminal assault case against Burmese academy-award winning actress Htet Htet Moe Oo was held in Yankin Township Court on Tuesday.

She has been charged with physically assaulting a Burmese female journalist, Aye Thu San, a reporter with the local 7 Days News Journal.

In the hearing, the prosecution questioned the actress for about two hours. A defence witness will testify on November 16, according to a court official.

The plaintiff, Aye Thu San, has testified 51 times in the court; Htet Htet Moe Oo has testified three times. Previous hearings were conducted on October 4 and 18.

The actress, who is also a popular spokesperson on television, is charged with assaulting the reporter on May 19, 2010. During an interview at the Sedona Hotel, the reporter asked about the entertainer’s marriage and her personal life. Htet Htet Moe Oo was granted bail at one million kyat (about US$ 1,250).

Originally, the actress was charged with injuring the reporter and for threatening her, but the threat charge has been dropped.
