A Japanese company has partnered with the Burmese Zaygabar Company to open a chain of 7-Eleven convenience stories throughout Burma within a year, the Eleven Media Group reported this week.

The 7-Eleven concept of convenience shopping at easy-to-find locations was begun in Dallas, Texas, in 1927. In 1991, 7-Eleven became part of an international chain of convenience stores, operating under Seven-Eleven Japan Co. Ltd, which in turn is owned by Seven & I Holdings Co. of Japan.

7-Eleven primarily operates as a franchise, and it is the world's largest operator, franchisor and licensor of convenience stores, with more than 46,000 outlets, surpassing the previous record holder McDonald's Corporation in 2007 by approximately 1,000 retail stores. There are about 6,000 7-Elevens in Thailand, half of which are in Bangkok, making Thailand the 3rd largest number of stores after the U.S. and Japan.

7-Eleven stores are found in 100 countries.

The Zaygabar Company currently operates businesses in the hotel industry, trade, construction, industrial zones and housing projects in the country.
